SOME CEBU CITY COUNCILORS TO GIVE POLICE P300T REWARD FOR CRACKING RUPINTA MURDER CASE
Nearly six months after the ambush that killed Cebu City Ermita Barangay Captain Felicisimo “Imok” Rupinta, some members of Barug Team Rama will turn over to the police the P300,000 bounty they’ve raised.
A day after Rupinta was slain, some members of the opposition promised to raise a reward for anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of the assailants.
The village chief, an ally of the group, was killed in an ambush in Liloan town last Nov. 23.
Police arrested a certain Jimmy Largo, an alleged ex-convict, in Barangay Ermita, near the Carbon Public Market on Friday evening, Nov. 24. The second suspect, identified as Jordan Gera, was caught last Dec. 1. Gera, an ex-convict and an alleged member of Batang Cebu 45 of the Cebu City Jail, was arrested in Barangay Jugan, Consolacion.
Three weeks later, the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 filed murder and attempted murder charges against the alleged mastermind in the ambush-slay. The Regional Intelligence Division filed last Dec. 27 their complaint against Winefredo Miro, operations chief of the Cebu City Market Office.
In an interview yesterday, Councilor Joel Garganera said they have collectively decided to turn over to PRO 7 the amount since it’s the agency overseeing the case.
Councilor Raymond Alvin Garcia said that the police did an “exceptional job” in finding the alleged perpetrators of the attack.
“As such, it is them who deserve the financial aid. We hope that the wheels of justice will turn faster than usual for those masterminds who are not yet in custody but who have already been identified,” he said.
