Seniors soon to get cash aid from City
A total of 17,204 senior citizens in Mandaue City will receive the first tranche of their financial assistance from the City within the week.
Mayor Gabriel Luis Quisumbing led the ceremonial distribution of cash aid in the Barangay Subangdaku gym yesterday morning.
Based on records of the Office for Senior Citizens’ Affairs (Osca), Subangdaku has the highest number of senior citizens of the 27 barangays in Mandaue. This is followed by Barangay Paknaan, with 1,073 senior citizens.
Each senior citizen receives P6,000 as financial assistance every year from the Mandaue City Government.
The cash aid is given in three tranches, in April, August, and December.
Senior citizens from Barangays Subangdaku, Cambaro, Centro, Guizo and Mantuyong received their P2,000 yesterday.
Jessie Perez, head of the City Social Welfare and Services (CSWS) Office, said the senior citizens of the other barangays will receive their cash aid in the following days.
“Kung mag-revalidate mi mo-increase ta og 25,000. Tungod kay wa pa may guidelines (for the distribution of financial assistance for the senior citizens), status quo usa. Tanan ang nakadawat basi sa lista last year,” said Perez.
He said that the purpose of the guidelines is to make sure that the real Mandauehanons will receive the financial assistance.
Osca, which is under the CSWS, found out that there are senior citizens who are not from Mandaue but are residents from other areas as far as Bohol.
“Kung taga-Mandaue ka, you don’t need to worry,” said Perez.
For the elderly who cannot claim their financial assistance within the week, they can get it at the City Treasurer Office (CTO) from April 23 to April 25.
Senior citizens who cannot go to the venue in their barangay to claim their assistance, the CSWS, Osca and CTO representatives will go to their houses to give them their money on April 26 and April 27.
