‘HITCHHIKING’ BOY KILLED AFTER HE FELL AND WAS RUN OVER BY A TRUCK

An mute seven-year-old boy was killed after he fell off and got run over by a six-wheeler truck in Sitio Silangan 2, Barangay Tejero, Cebu City yesterday morning. According to SPO1 Edgar Baton, traffic investigator of the Waterfront Police Station, Julius Benitez was clinging to a rope at the back of the truck during a stop signal. The truck, though, lurched when the driver, Hubertson Beto, 39, hit the gas pedal. Beto reportedly was unaware of the orphan’s presence and was shocked when the truck went over something. When he checked the side mirror, he saw the boy’s body on the ground. Benitez was dead when help arrived. Beto said that he was on his way to Pier 4 to haul cement. The boy’s family said that they won’t file charges against Beto as the latter assured that he would settle the child’s burial
