50 Mindanaoan bands join Muzika del Sur at Davao Crocodile Park

SOME 50 bands from all over Mindanao will gather for the two-day music fest in the tradition of Woodstock. Dubbed as the “Mindanao Band Summit”, this one-of-akind spectacle involving 33-hour non-stop entertainm­ent, is organized by Muzika del Sur and will run from August 27 to 28.

Chocko Bordios, executive-producer of Muzika del Sur, explained that this gathering aims to promote tourism in the region through local music as well as showcase Mindanao's best bands.

“Muzika del Sur has always highlighte­d our vibrant music industry and our local musicians. As our 10th year anniversar­y offering, we want Mindanao residents and visitors alike to be treated to a memorable experience in what could be called our version of Woodstock," Bordios said.

According to Bordios, he hopes the Mindanao Band Summit will become a yearly tradition during Kadayawan - something everyone can look forward to.

The Mindanao Band Summit’s crowd should expect to feast on various music genre – from reggae to punk to metal - as handpicked bands from Davao and areas as far as Cagayan de Oro, Butuan, Iligan, Cotabato, General Santos City and Koronadal perform for two full days.

“And it’s not just all about music. There are also various side activities that the crowd can participat­e in while listening to the bands, “Bordios added.

Muzika del Sur has also partnered with outdoor groups and artists who will conduct side events such as skateboard­ing exhibition­s, bike competitio­n, rock wall climbing, tattoo and graffiti painting as well as filmviewin­g. Ticket-holders may also opt to camp out on the ground upon prior notificati­on to the event organizers.

Tickets are P250 for two days (two-day pass) and P150 for one day (one day-pass).
