Militar likens relocation houses to a dog house

- By Karina V. Cañedo

DAVAO City Councilor Bonifacio Militar went ballistic yesterday calling the housing units built by the National Housing Authority (NHA) a doghouse as he pushed for the revocation of the memorandum of agreement between NHA and City Government for the construction of houses for relocation in Los Amigos due to the questionable quality of the houses and the newly slated agreements that he says is unfavorable to the city.

City Council sub-committee on housing chair Militar during the Pulong Pulong ni Pulong weekly media forum questioned the quality of the houses previously built by NHA.

Militar said that houses that can be likened to a dog house and could not give comfortable living for the settlers.

"If we will allow this P135,000 unit there it will be inhuman, coming from us we have to also observe what kind of living they will have in the area," he added

He said he has to raise this issue because this has to do with the beneficiaries and how they will be building their lives from this.

"You know if you have nothing, you can sacrifice living there but for us who are concerned with their comfort it is not the kind of assistance that they should get," Militar said.

Meanwhile, Militar said that majority of the councilors have already agreed to hold in abeyance the release of NHA fund to build more houses.

This was backed also by Councilor Rene Elias Lopez who said that some parts of the memorandum has been changed which makes it unfair for the city.

“In accordance to memo agreement office of Al-ag, the NHA will shoulder the construction, however. during the discussion, they say na nag-change na daw and back to the city na ang implementation portion ng memorandum. We are in the part of clearing that issue," he said.

Lopez said that the release of the second batch funds for the housing project in Los Amigos has

been brought to the council for approval two weeks ago.

“The NHA released these as part of the P20 million project where the P10 million ay nagawa na sa Los Amigos, and then second release for the construction of more houses,” he said.

He said that among the things that they are discussing right now is who will construct the next batch of houses.
