- By Juliet C. Revita

THE Task Group Site Davao (TGSD), the security forces assigned to protect the delegates of the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (Asean) 2017, said no untoward incident happened during the staging of Asean meetings here on February 19 to 22.

TGSD deployed a total of 4,498 personnel last February 18, 2017 to secure at least 106 delegates who attended the Asean meetings here.

Deployed personnel were from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Office Davao Region and Soccsksargen, Davao City Police (DCPO), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and Office of the Civil Defense, among others.

TGSD commander and Police Regional Office (PRO 11) director chief superintendent Manuel Gaerlan said he was happy with the success of the Asean Minister's Retreat and Asean Committee on Migrant Workers (ACMW) Meeting held at Marco Polo Hotel Davao.

He attributed the success to the joint efforts of the 21 participating agencies and implementation of heightened security measures.

"We noted a zero-incident," Gaerlan said during the awarding and recognition of different participating agencies for the Asean 2017 at Multi-Agency Coordinating Center at Green Heights Convention Center, Diversion Road Buhangin, Davao City.

Earlier, Gaerlan reminded all area and unit commanders to strictly supervise their personnel with vigilance and implement all appropriate security protocols, especially on all venues and their area of responsibility to ensure maximum safety of all delegates. Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) information officer Major Ezra Balagtey, for his part, said that they are happy with the success of the series of activities and meetings in Davao City amid threats from lawless armed groups.

"This is another success that brings pride to all Dabawenyos. The success and safety of the series of events can be attributed not only to the collaboration and partnership of different agencies and the security sector but also to the cooperation and discipline of the people of Davao," he said.
