Compostela Valley Province welcomes progress

APART from its sprawling gold mines, Compostela Valley Province in the Davao Region, now houses a promising island resort where abundant tropical living is highlighted.

Developed by the Torre Lorenzo Development Corporation (TLDC), Kopiat Island is a nesting site of the Greenback and Hawksbill turtle species. This 87-hectare island is part of the 6,106-hectare Mabini Protected Landscape.

TLDC President Tomas Lorenzo, in a statement, said that the company wants to be part of the development of the province but not at the expense of the environment.

Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy, in a statement, said that the province is grateful to the Lorenzos for developing the island that he said would put Compostela Valley Province on the international map.

This follows the doings of the governor as he's also expressive of their natural resources' sustainability.

A sneak preview of the property showed a 1920s plantation-themed development with highceilings interiors where even the details have been attended to. You will not find any electric fan there brandishing its brand, nor switches sticking out on walls.

Lubi Plantation is on Kopiat Island, a privatelyowned 87-hectare around 1.5 kilometers off the coast of Mabini, Compostela Valley. Aside from the beach club for day tourists and special functions on the eastern portion of the island, there will rise villas and a 200-room Dusit Thani Resort Hotel on its western shore to complete a master-planned island resort. At the moment, work is ongoing for the children’s playground adjacent to the pool. There will also be water sports facilities, including a dive center for visitors to explore the protected waters of the island.

Paving way for the observation of the Earth Day, at least 50 students and members of the coastal communities planted mangrove seedlings at the Casilac mangrove site in Barangay Pindasan in Mabini.

The volunteers planted 200 mangroves (propagules) along the town’s coastline. Mabini is touted to be the Jewel of Davao Gulf with its mangrove forests, white sand beaches, and rich coral reef.

The government and its people are one in protecting their natural resources, especially now that the province is on its way to urbanization.
