Girl arrested for trying to slip ‘shabu' inside jail
ZAMBOANGA - A 13-year-old girl was arrested while trying to slip a big pack of illegal drugs into a correctional facility in the provice of Zamboanga del Norte on Tuesday, the police reported on Wednesday, September 13.
Chief Superintendent Billy Beltran, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director, said the girl was arrested at 11:08 a.m. Tuesday, September 12, at the Zamboanga del Norte Correctional and Rehabilitation Center in the village of Don Jose Aguirre, Manukan.
Beltran said the girl was about to visit her mother when the female guard found a pack of suspected methampethamine hydrochloride, locally known as “shabu,” concealed in the girl's sock.
“Upon verification of suspect's cellphone, it was found out on SMS or text message that her mother instructed her to deliver the said illegal drug items to the said facility,” he said.
He said the girl's mother, Rebecca Buaya, is detained at the correctional facility for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The girl was turned over to the custody of the Social Welfare Office for appropriate action.
