Girl ar­rested for try­ing to slip ‘shabu' in­side jail

ZAMBOANGA - A 13-year-old girl was ar­rested while try­ing to slip a big pack of il­le­gal drugs into a cor­rec­tional fa­cil­ity in the provice of Zamboanga del Norte on Tues­day, the po­lice re­ported on Wed­nes­day, Septem­ber 13.

Chief Su­per­in­ten­dent Billy Bel­tran, Po­lice Re­gional Of­fice-Zamboanga Penin­sula di­rec­tor, said the girl was ar­rested at 11:08 a.m. Tues­day, Septem­ber 12, at the Zamboanga del Norte Cor­rec­tional and Re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion Cen­ter in the vil­lage of Don Jose Aguirre, Manukan.

Bel­tran said the girl was about to visit her mother when the fe­male guard found a pack of sus­pected metham­pethamine hy­drochlo­ride, lo­cally known as “shabu,” con­cealed in the girl's sock.

“Upon ver­i­fi­ca­tion of sus­pect's cell­phone, it was found out on SMS or text mes­sage that her mother in­structed her to de­liver the said il­le­gal drug items to the said fa­cil­ity,” he said.

He said the girl's mother, Re­becca Buaya, is de­tained at the cor­rec­tional fa­cil­ity for vi­o­la­tion of the Com­pre­hen­sive Dan­ger­ous Drugs Act of 2002.

The girl was turned over to the cus­tody of the So­cial Wel­fare Of­fice for ap­pro­pri­ate ac­tion.
