Teo: Flights to China to be launched soon

flight from Davao to Bei­jing and Shang­hai will be launched soon, said Tourism sec­re­tary Wanda Teo.

In a press con­fer­ence with Teo yes­ter­day Fri­day, Jan­uary 12, Teo said they are cur­rently fi­nal­iz­ing talks with Chi­nese tour op­er­a­tors to es­tab­lish di­rect char­ter flight from Davao to Bei­jing and Shang­hai.

Teo said they are tar­get­ing to of­fi­cially launch the talks af­ter the Chi­nese New Year and will fly twice a week. A sin­gle flight is ex­pected to fly 180 to 200 pas­sen­gers.

This plan was orig­i­nally drafted dur­ing President Ro­drigo Duterte's visit to China last year.

"We are ex­pect­ing more Chi­nese tourists with the es­tab­lish­ment of this flight...I'm re­ally hop­ing this will be pushed through," said Teo adding the Davao-Bei­jingShang­hai will be a sin­gle con­nect­ing flight.

Teo said she will fo­cus on pro­mot­ing Min­danao for her term as the other cities and tourism ar­eas in the Philip­pines "can al­ready stand on their own" in terms of tourism. She said it's time Min­danao would be given fo­cus and more tourism-re­lated pro­mo­tion.
