ACD reaches Ceap Mindanao finals
THE Assumption College of Davao (ACD) Warriors booked a ticket to the Mindanao Finals after thrashing Maryknoll College of Panabo, 122-69, in the finals of the Davao Association of Catholic Schools-Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (Dacs-Ceap) Davao City eliminations that came to a close yesterday at the Philippine Women’s College (PWC) Gym.
The Warriors will make their second appearance and will test their mettle against champion teams from Jolo, Sulu, Butuan City, Zamboanga City, Cagayan de Oro City and General Santos City.
Cris Marvin Vistal paced the Warriors with 16 points while AJ Royo, Arnol John Frend Heje and Paul Malano drilled in 12 points each.
They earlier escaped past Cor Jesu College (CJC), 89-80.
Coach Rollie Sancho, in a phone interview, said they adjusted during first game against Digos City to keep the momentum.
But Sancho is unsure of defending the Mindanao Finals crown considering tough rivals.
"Mga champion din yung mga kalaro namin kaya di namin yan masabi," Sancho said, adding that they have yet to resume training.
Last year, the Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Blue Knights was supposed to represent Davao City in the Mindanao Finals but begged off due to security purposes, thus, the Warriors replaced them.
ACD secured the title at the expense of Xavier University of Cagayan de Oro City.
Meanwhile, Tagum City will host the Mindanao Finals slated February 1.
