Bus for disas­ter pre­pared­ness launched

A P6.5 mil­lion worth mo­bile bus for disas­ter ori­en­ta­tion and pre­pared­ness was launched yes­ter­day af­ter the weekly flag cer­e­mony of Davao City em­ploy­ees.

Davao City Li­brary head Pedrita Badar said this project of Davao City Mayor Sara Z. DuterteCar­pio is in part­ner­ship with the Davao City Disas­ter Risk Re­duc­tion and Man­age­ment Coun­cil (DRRMC), Cen­tral 911 and the city li­brary.

"The mo­bile bus will go to the dif­fer­ent barangays to pro­mote safety aware­ness to the pub­lic through ori­en­ta­tion lec­tures and ed­u­cate the com­mu­nity on disas­ter pre­pared­ness," she said

Badar added that the li­brary will be help­ful as the city has been ex­pe­ri­enc­ing var­i­ous life threat­en­ing calami­ties like flood, earth­quakes, land­slides, fires and typhoon.

"The mo­bile li­brary for disas­ter risk re­duc­tion car­ries es­sen­tial in­for­ma­tion with nec­es­sary equip­ment for demon­stra­tion and ori­en­ta­tion pur­poses to be un­der­taken by the

city li­brary staff and Cen­tral 911 staff as our train­ers," she said.

The bus will pos­si­bly be de­ployed two weeks from now. It will cater to two barangays per day. How­ever, barangays in the cen­tral dis­trict and along roads that are pass­able by the bus will be pri­or­i­tized.

In­side the bus are books and lap­tops. It also has tele­vi­sion where train­ors can play videos on dis­as­ters and how to pre­pare for these and other videos re­lat­ing Davao City. The bus is also equipped with gen­er­a­tor.
