Ac­co­mo­da­tions in city 90% full for Iron­man Davao

ROOM ac­com­mo­da­tions in Davao City are al­most fully-booked al­ready for the up­com­ing Alveo Iron­man 70.3 Davao on March 25.

Ac­cord­ing to Davao City Tourism and Oper­a­tions Of­fice (CTOO) head Gen­erose Tec­son, ho­tels in the city are al­ready fully­booked with the smaller inns al­ready 90 per­cent booked. How­ever, for those who are go­ing to at­tend the event but haven’t booked rooms yet, Tec­son said there still avail­able pen­sion houses and inns that they can avail.

CTOO ex­pects about 5,000 tourists that are go­ing to visit and par­tic­i­pate dur­ing the Iron­man 70.3 Chal­lenge on the 25th.

Aside from the lo­cal par­tic­i­pants, a great num­ber are also ex­pected from dif­fer­ent parts of the coun­try in­clud­ing celebri­ties who are known to be phys­i­cally ac­tive. In an ear­lier pub­lished ar­ti­cle, those who are ex­pected to come and par­tic­i­pate are Pi­olo Pas­cual, Mat­teo Guide­celli, Ger­ald An­der­son, Jake Cuenca, Troy Mon­tero, Aubrey Miles, and Kim Atienza.

As the event bring in in­flux of tourists and marathon-en­thu­si­asts alike from dif­fer­ent cor­ners of the Philip­pines, se­cu­rity of the main things be­ing taken care of.

Sports De­vel­op­ment Di­vi­sion of­fi­cer-in-charge Mikey Apor­tadera said a se­ries of meet­ings with the in­volved lo­cal gov­ern­ment units are be­ing done to en­sure se­cu­rity and safety of the par­tic­i­pants.

“We have been dis­cussing se­cu­rity and safety of the par­tic­i­pants who will pass through out­side Davao City mu­nic­i­pal­i­ties dur­ing the bike leg,” Apor­tadera said adding that co­or­di­na­tion with the Cen­tral 911, Philip­pine Na­tional Po­lice, Task Force Davao, the Pub­lic Safety Com­mand Cen­ter, and the Philip­pine Air Force are be­ing done in prepa­ra­tion.

The race will start at Azuela Cove with a one-loop swim where the par­tic­i­pants are to go back for their first tran­si­tion. Af­ter that, they exit onto the high­way for the fast, sin­gle loop bike ride all the way to the turn­around point at Tagum City. Af­ter that, they head back to the Azuela Cove, for the sec­ond tran­si­tion, exit through J.P. Lau­rel Av­enue to­wards the com­mer­cial dis­trict com­plet­ing a twoloop run.
