VAL­UES REORIENTATION PRO­GRAM FOR VI­TAL ROLE OF PAR­ENTS OF DE­PRESSED AR­EAS

Par­ents are the most im­por­tant per­sons in the fam­ily which is the ba­sis unit and the strong foun­da­tion of the so­ci­ety. The kind of fam­i­lies that com­posed the com­mu­nity will de­ter­mine the kind of so­ci­ety that ex­ists. With the vi­tal role that par­ents play in com­mu­nity build­ing, they should be well equipped of the nec­es­sary val­ues that will guide them in pre­serv­ing bet­ter qual­ity of life.

The fam­ily is the most nat­u­ral pow­er­ful and en­dur­ing trans­mit­ter of moral val­ues, the first and most ef­fec­tive school for ed­u­ca­tion in val­ues.

Value reorientation pro­gram for par­ents aims to pro­mote that val­ues have to be ac­cepted and in­te­grated within the per­son. At the in­di­vid­ual level, in­ter­ven­tions shall fo­cus on value in­ter­nal­iza­tion, the re­sults of which are ex­pressed through at­ti­tu­di­nal and be­hav­ioral change. At the fam­ily and com­mu­nity level, mores have been made to­wards align­ing in­di­vid­ual val­ues within the fam­ily and com­mu­nity val­ues. This may be re­al­ized through parental role model­ing.

This in­for­ma­tion gath­ered for the pur­pose of pro­vid­ing some im­por­tant in­sights and guide to the par­ents of the iden­ti­fied de­pressed barangays of the Is­land Gar­den City of Sa­mal, and to de­velop the nec­es­sary val­ues needed which aimed at rais­ing the bet­ter qual­ity fam­ily life, nec­es­sary for na­tion build­ing.
