Motor thief dead, 4 others nabbed
Kidapawan City – Operatives of the city police and the Special Action Force (SAF) arrested five suspected motorcycle thieves, after a shootout inside a coffee shop here on Tuesday, a police officer said.
Of the five, one was slain in the shooting; the other one was wounded; and the rest unhurt, according to city director Superintendent Ramel Hojilla.
The suspects are residents of nearby Makilala, Cotabato, Hojilla said.
The city director refused to reveal to media the identities of the suspects whom he considered as notorious members of a syndicate of motorcycle thieves operating in North Cotabato and nearby areas in Region 12.
According to Hojilla, the suspects arrived in the city on board a passenger tricycle, around 10pm on Tuesday.
Accordingly, footages from close circuit television (CCTV) security cameras from two establishments captured the stealing of two motorbikes – one took place around 10 p.m. at the Roof Top and the other incident at 10:30 p.m. in an internet café, both located along Old PC Barracks, Barangay Sudapin, here.
One of the victims, the security guard of the Roof Top, has immediately informed the PNP when he saw the thief who stole his motorcycle returned to the bar, along with another companion.
Hojilla said his men, including SAF operatives, went to the Roof Top and immediately collared the two.
During the interrogation, the two revealed that three of their companions were still inside the Kofi Bar, also located along Old PC Barracks. The suspects’ relatives cried foul over the killing of one of their kin and the arrest of the four others.
An uncle, who requested not to be named, has denied his relatives are notorious motorcycle thieves. /
