Na­tional sci­en­tists share ex­per­tise in DavNor

The Na­tional Acad­emy of Sci­ence and Tech­nol­ogy, Philip­pines (NAST PHL), in part­ner­ship with the De­part­ment of Sci­ence and Tech­nol­ogy 11 thru Pro­vin­cial Sci­ence and Tech­nol­ogy Cen­ter-Davao del Norte, con­ducted a Sym­po­sium for the Youth and Di­a­logue with NAST Sci­en­tists (lec­ture se­ries) last Septem­ber 24-25, 2018 at the Molave Ho­tel, Tagum City.

The first day of the sym­po­sium was de­signed for stu­dents of Davao del Norte to pur­sue a sci­en­tific ca­reer.

The di­a­logue with NAST sci­en­tists on the day two was in­tended to en­cour­age re­searchers from var­i­ous or­ga­ni­za­tions, even en­trepreneurs to adapt sci­ence and tech­nol­ogy for de­vel­op­ment.

NAST sci­en­tists present were aca­demi­cians Eufemio T. Rasco, Asun­cion K. Ray­mundo, Vic­tor B. Amoroso, whose sci­en­tific dis­cus­sion fo­cused on agri­cul­ture (rice, ca­cao, ba­nana); aca­demi­cian Jose Maria P. Bal­maceda talked about his ca­reer in math­e­mat­ics; Dr. Ida F. Dal­ma­cio ex­plained im­por­tant con­cepts in food pro­cess­ing; and Dr. Al­lan N. So­ri­ano elab­o­rated on en­gi­neer­ing.

More than 200 par­tic­i­pants com­ing from the academe, var­i­ous or­ga­ni­za­tions and en­trepreneurs in Davao del Norte at­tended the two-day event.

This ac­tiv­ity is part of NAST’s aim to in­crease aware­ness and en­cour­age in­ter­est in the field of sci­ence and tech­nol­ogy for the next gen­er­a­tion of Filipino sci­en­tists. /
