Dela Rosa: Drug war still PNP's priority, not illegal gambling
PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) chief Ronald Dela Rosa has maintained that the intensified war against illegal drugs will still be on top of their priority despite al r eady "achieving" the 70 percent of their campaign target.
“Drugs pa rin...kasi ang ating target ay zero drug affected barangays. I don’t know kung kalian natin makukuha yan pero hopefully this year gawin natin,” he said, clarifying his previous statement that the PNP will shift its focus on illegal gambling this 2017.
As of January 8, the PNP recorded 2,208 drug suspects killed and 44,312 arrested in 41,900 anti-illegal drug operations. This does not include those drug suspect executed, vigilante-style.
It said 1,020,904 drug users and pushers have already surrendered to the authorities through the PNP’s Oplan Tokhang.
The PNP is targeting at least 1.8 million drug suspects in the country in line with Pr esi dent Rodrigo Duterte’s promise that he will get rid of illegal drugs in the country.
Dela Rosa said earlier that their 70 percent accomplishment is already a “passing mark.”
However, the PNP chief urged his men not to let their guards down in their war against illegal drugs and to continue the operations despite the criticisms.
The PNP has been scored for the continuous increase in the number of persons killed since Duterte took office. (Sunnex)
