SAN SIMON - In a bid to boost solid waste management in this town, the local government has started implementing the “no Segregation, no collection” policy for every household.

According to Municipal Environment and Natural Resources (MENR) Officer Melchor Tayag, the local government started to strictly implement the policy alongside creating the 10-year comprehensive solid waste management plan of the municipality.

He added that it is one way of preparing the residents through discipline in the systematic handling of solid waste once the scheme is finished.

“Ang basura, kahit basura yan, malaki pa din ang problema lalo na kapag hindi na-manage ng maayos. Kaya talagang umiisip kami ng magagandang approach para mai-ayos yung sistema,” he said.

Tayag noted that residents are complying with the new policy and have learned to segregate their waste for collection.

He added that the local government has also created an organized schedule for the collection of household wastes in every barangay.

“Lahat systematic dapat, even yung collection para hindi nabubulok yung mha basura sa mga bahay-bahay dahil minsan, ang kawalan ng collection ang nagti-trigger para magtapon sila kung saan-saan,” he said.

Once the solid wastes are collected from the household, Tayag said that they will be delivered at the staging area in Barangay Sto. Niño where the Metro Clark Waste Management Corporation will pick them up.

The MENR Officer stressed the value of segregation which significantly improves the process of collecting and disposing solid waste of the community.

He said that since they implemented the policy late in 2016, the solid waste management of the municipality has improved by up to 60 percent.

“Actually yung mga MRF (materials recovery facility) ay hindi na talaga nagagamit kasi sa bahay pa lang, nai-segregate na tapos diretso na sa staging area,” he sai d.

Meanwhile, Tayag said that the formation of the 10year solid waste management plan of the municipality is almost finished and may be up for presentation by the end of January.

He noted that scheme is unique and dedicated to the compositions of the every villages in the municipality including those located at the riverside.

He added that the plan was made based from the inputs of committee as well as residents.

“Hindi kami nagcopy-paste sa ibang munisipyo. Talagang ginawa namin base sa nakita namin pangangailangan ng munisipyo,” he said.
