Guagua town highlights accomplishments for child protection
GUAGUA— Mayor Dante Torres yesterday said that the institutionalized functionality of the Local Council for the Protection of Children through the conduct of Early Childhood Care and Development had made significant accomplishments for the whole of 2016 with programs still being conducted to date.
The mayor added that Guagua has sustained its being a role model in the implementation of day care and supplemental feeding (Cycle 1 to Cycle 6) Programs in Region III.
The town also has sustained its status of being one of the “Child Friendly Municipalities” in Region III for CY 2016 in collaboration with other concern agencies.
The town also provided custodial care to 1,919 preschool children in 36 day care centers under the Day Care Program. The town also initiated and supervised the implementation of supplemental feeding program to 1,919 children in Day Care, for the period of six months or 120 days with a total budget of P3,583,319.
Activities included orientation of day care parents, groupings and tasking of work assignments to day care parents, actual feeding to 36 DCCS, processing of vouchers and liquidation of expenses, preparation and submission of monthly physical and financial report, narrative report, weight monitoring report, documentation and feed backing/networking/accessing to other concerned agencies.
“We also advocated children’s rights and conducted family strengthening activities,” Torres said.
The municipal government also organized the Federation of Day Care Parents Committees in Guagua on July 21, 2016 and facilitated the conduct of oath taking ceremony of day care parents officers.
There was also pre-marriage counseling and parents effectiveness service to 50 couples and parents.
Torres said that they hope to continue the programs for the children and family sector of the town this 2017 with more programs lined up for the improvement of the quality of life of families and children through effective government support.
