Guagua town high­lights ac­com­plish­ments for child pro­tec­tion

GUAGUA— Mayor Dante Tor­res yes­ter­day said that the in­sti­tu­tion­al­ized func­tion­al­ity of the Lo­cal Coun­cil for the Pro­tec­tion of Chil­dren through the con­duct of Early Child­hood Care and De­vel­op­ment had made sig­nif­i­cant ac­com­plish­ments for the whole of 2016 with pro­grams still be­ing con­ducted to date.

The mayor added that Guagua has sus­tained its be­ing a role model in the im­ple­men­ta­tion of day care and sup­ple­men­tal feed­ing (Cy­cle 1 to Cy­cle 6) Pro­grams in Re­gion III.

The town also has sus­tained its sta­tus of be­ing one of the “Child Friendly Mu­nic­i­pal­i­ties” in Re­gion III for CY 2016 in col­lab­o­ra­tion with other con­cern agen­cies.

The town also pro­vided cus­to­dial care to 1,919 preschool chil­dren in 36 day care cen­ters un­der the Day Care Pro­gram. The town also ini­ti­ated and su­per­vised the im­ple­men­ta­tion of sup­ple­men­tal feed­ing pro­gram to 1,919 chil­dren in Day Care, for the pe­riod of six months or 120 days with a to­tal bud­get of P3,583,319.

Ac­tiv­i­ties in­cluded ori­en­ta­tion of day care par­ents, group­ings and task­ing of work as­sign­ments to day care par­ents, ac­tual feed­ing to 36 DCCS, pro­cess­ing of vouch­ers and liq­ui­da­tion of ex­penses, prepa­ra­tion and sub­mis­sion of monthly phys­i­cal and fi­nan­cial re­port, nar­ra­tive re­port, weight mon­i­tor­ing re­port, doc­u­men­ta­tion and feed back­ing/networking/ac­cess­ing to other con­cerned agen­cies.

“We also ad­vo­cated chil­dren’s rights and con­ducted fam­ily strength­en­ing ac­tiv­i­ties,” Tor­res said.

The mu­nic­i­pal gov­ern­ment also or­ga­nized the Fed­er­a­tion of Day Care Par­ents Com­mit­tees in Guagua on July 21, 2016 and fa­cil­i­tated the con­duct of oath tak­ing cer­e­mony of day care par­ents of­fi­cers.

There was also pre-mar­riage coun­sel­ing and par­ents ef­fec­tive­ness ser­vice to 50 cou­ples and par­ents.

Tor­res said that they hope to con­tinue the pro­grams for the chil­dren and fam­ily sec­tor of the town this 2017 with more pro­grams lined up for the im­prove­ment of the qual­ity of life of fam­i­lies and chil­dren through ef­fec­tive gov­ern­ment sup­port.
