2 killed, 3 hurt in Batan­gasland­slide

TWO per­sons were killed and three others were wounded Wed­nes­day morn­ing in a rain-in­duced land­slide that struck a re­sort San Juan, Bat an gas.

San Juan po­lice chief Jo­mar Fla­viano iden­ti­fied the fa­tal­i­ties as Maria Luisa San­tos and Christo­pher Cr uz.

The vic­tims were sleep­ing in a con­tainer van cottage sit­u­ated near a cliff in Kota Kelu­arga Re­sort in Barangay Laiya when tons of soil and boul­ders eroded around 2:30 a.m.

Three others were brought to a hos­pi­tal for treat­ment of mi­nor in­juries.

Au­thor­i­ties said heavy rains in the area brought by Trop­i­cal De­pres­sion Ramil could have trig­gered the land­slide.

Ramil was last spot­ted at 85 kilo­me­ters east-south­east of Coron, Palawan pack­ing max­i­mum sus­tained winds of 45 kilo­me­ters per hour (kph) with gusti­ness of up to 60 kph.

The weather dis­tur­bance brought mod­er­ate to heavy rains over Cal­abar­zon ar­eas of Cavite, Laguna, Batan­gas, Rizal and Que­zon since Tues­day.

The state weather bureau has warned the pub­lic of pos­si­ble flash­flood and land­slide in Cal­abar­zon, Metro Manila, Mi­maropa and Bi­col. (SunS­tar Philip­pines)
