PHLPost launches com­mem­o­ra­tive stamps for Palarong Pam­bansa open­ing

The Philip­pine Postal Cor­po­ra­tion (PHLPost) is­sued a set of per­son­al­ized multi-sport spe­cial com­mem­o­ra­tive stamps yes­ter­day, April 15 to mark the open­ing of thePalarongPam­bansa (Na­tional Games) to be par­tic­i­pated by stu­den­tath­letes from 17 re­gions in the coun­try.

The Palarong Pam­bansa is a week­long sports gath­er­ing which kicked off yes­ter­day in the her­itage town of Vi­gan, Ilo­cos Sur prov­ince and is or­ga­nized by the De­part­ment of Ed­u­ca­tion or DepEd.

The Palarong Pam­bansa is the cul­mi­na­tion of school sports com­pe­ti­tion, which started from lo­cal in­tra­mu­rals, fol­lowed by pro­vin­cial and re­gional ath­letic meets.

“We have de­cided to come up with postage stamps in or­der to feel the ex­cite­ment and ac­tion of the sports in the Palarong Pam­bansa. Also, these postage stamps may some­how in­spire peo­ple es­pe­cially the youth to en­gage

in phys­i­cal ed­u­ca­tion and learn the val­ues in­her­ent in sports”, Post­mas­ter Gen­eral Joel Otarra said.

PHLPost has printed lim­ited copies of 1,000 generic sheets of four P17 stamps with four la­bels rep­re­sent­ing

dif­fer­ent sport­ing events which can be pur­chased at P150 per sheet. An­other 4,000 pieces of the per­son­al­ized sheets were printed which also con­tains four P17 stamps with cor­re­spond­ing per­son­al­ized la­bels val­ued at P150 per sheet.

Graphic artist Eu­nice Beatrix Dabu de­signed the spe­cial Palarong Pam­bansa stamps.

Palarong Pam­bansa “pop­u­lar sports” spe­cial postage stamps and its of­fi­cial first day cover will be avail­able at the Post Shop, Cen­tral Post Of­fice, Door 203, Li­wasang Boni­fa­cio, Manila and area post of­fices na­tion­wide.
