The SGLG is the highest award given annually by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The SGLG was established in 2014, embodied in the Local Government Code of 1991, that challenges local government units to become partners of the national government towards good governance, which for this year, was levelled up to seven governance areas.

These seven areas include financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, peace and order, businessfriendliness and competitiveness, environmental management, and tourism, culture, and the arts.

Based on the governance assessment report which was released by the DILG, the City of San Fernando successfully met the criteria in each area.

For this year, a total of 263 LGUs were awarded the SGLG, including 43 from Central Luzon, making it the second best performing region, next to Ilocos Region.
