NORTHERN LIGHTS: A JOURNEY TO LOVE

- TROY CIAR

Piolo Pascual ug Yen Santos, Ssssuper Ka!

What’s the movie all about?

PIOLO: It's a journey of three lives. My character has been traumatized by a past relationship. But one day, I'll wake up finding out that my son (Raikko Mateo) is coming over for the first time to have a vacation in Alaska. And here comes another girl (Yen Santos), who is making me fall in love again.

PIOLO: Even for Raikko, he didn't have any idea who's gonna face him when he gets to Alaska. It's very timely cuz now a lot of parents are leaving their children either for greener pasture or because of broken family. Pag-uusapan dito yung ganoong klaseng conflict.

As a co-producer also of this movie, what inspired you to do this?

PIOLO: It's so close to my heart since it tackles a father and son's relationship. It's always our responsibility to do something that you haven't done before. When our director Dondon Santos pitched this project to me, I said yes. Because in this movie you get the perspective of a father, kasi we are always accustomed stories about moms, di ba female leads. I have so much love and respect for my craft, I just wanted to be more involved in the process so I could learn as well as a producer.

How’s working with Piolo for the first time?

We don't have the luxury of time to do a lot of takes. We were in Queen's town and I just realized back na first movie pala ni Yen, so it was harder for her because sobra yung pressure. But you know, she lived up to the expectation cuz after a couple of days, nawala na yung pagka-giggly n'ya.

What scene na pinagalitan ka ng director?

YEN: Yung first time namin nagkita sa Airbnb (online marketplace), yun po yung maraming takes kasi doon talaga parang una, kailangan suplada. Papaano mo supladahin yung ganyan? Parang naka-7 takes yata kami. Sinabi na ng director, “Yen tumatakbo ang oras natin dito, time is gold, umayos ka na diyan sumeryuso ka na.” Sabi ko, “Ok, ok po direk.”

More than the kilig, what are you most proud of in this movie.

Usually kasi ang kuwento mother and daughter e, dito ang nagkukuwento talaga ay yung tatay from the heart. /
