Girl, 6, found dead in Ba­colod

BA­COLOD CITY – The body of a six-year-old girl, who was be­lieved to be raped, was found in a va­cant lot in Barangay Este­fa­nia here Thurs­day.

In a me­dia in­ter­view, the vic­tim’s un­cle said the vic­tim went home early a er at­tend­ing her cousin’s birth an­niver­sary at their house, where the 24-yearold sus­pect was also hav­ing a drink­ing ses­sion.

Po­lice with­held the names of the vic­tim and the sus­pect, whom the child’s fam­ily and rel­a­tives know.

How­ever, the vic­tim went miss­ing on Thurs­day night, when she failed to go home.

Her fam­ily searched for her un­til her body was found a few me­ters away from their house at around 10 p.m.

The vic­tim’s un­cle al­leged that the sus­pect prob­a­bly fol­lowed the vic­tim on her way home and com­mit­ted the crime be­cause of the in­flu­ence of liquor.

Based on a po­lice re­port, the vic­tim was only wear­ing an un­der­wear and a T-shirt when she was found by her mother.

City Po­lice Sta­tion 4 head Po­lice Ma­jor Charles Gever said the sus­pect, who was ini­tially con­sid­ered as a per­son of in­ter­est, was brought to the po­lice sta­tion for safe­keep­ing upon his re­quest a er he learned that he was be­ing sus­pected by the fam­ily be­hind the child’s death.

Gever said the sus­pect, dur­ing me­dia in­ter­views, ad­mit­ted that he sex­u­ally mo­lested and killed the child through stran­gu­la­tion.

How­ever, de­spite his con­fes­sion, po­lice still need to wait for the re­sult of the med­i­cal ex­am­i­na­tion to have ba­sis in the fil­ing of charges.
