National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents arrested Sunday afternoon an alleged large-scale illegal recruiter for duping scores of job applicants.

NBI spokesperson Ferdinand Lavin said the suspect, Analyn Ducusin, was arrested by the NBI’s Special Action Unit (SAU) during an entrapment operation at a mall in Pasay City.

Lavin said Ducusin will be charged with illegal recruitment and economic sabotage under Republic Act 8042 (The Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995) and estafa.

The NBI is also hunting down Maria Theresa Bumatay Baruelo tagged as the leader of the syndicate to which Ducusin belongs.

Lavin said around 100 complainants have sought NBI help to arrest the suspects and 100 more are expected to follow suit.

Complainants said the suspects have been recruiting them for work in Japan. They asked them to pay fees ranging from ₱31,000 to ₱38,000 for the processing of their visas and other documentation.

However, after several months, the suspects failed to deliver their promises.

Despite their repeated demands to return their money, the suspects also failed to return to the victims the amounts they paid.
