Ca­pado­cia, part­ner lose in semis

Mar­ian Jade Ca­pado­cia and Aus­trian part­ner Anna-Lena Neuwirth fell short in their fi­nal bid, los­ing to Emily Ar­buth­not of Britain and Belinda Wool­cock of Aus­tralia, 6-1, 6-3, in the semis of the Am­stelveen cham­pi­onships in The Nether­lands.

De­spite their set­back, Ca­pado­cia and her part­ner earned 8 points or equiv­a­lent of 2,400 lo­cal points in ITF dou­bles rank­ing.

The two ad­vanced to the semis with a walkover win over Stephanie Mariel Petit of Ar­gentina and Ana Sofia Sanchez of Mex­ico.

In the sin­gles event, Ca­pado­cia bowed to Mer­itx­ell Perera Ros of Spain, 7-5, 6-3, in the third round.

The vet­eran SEA Games cam­paigner eas­ily dis­posed off home­town bet Sop­phia Grippo, 6-2, 6-0, be­fore beat­ing the tough Neuwirth, 6-7 (3), 7-5, 6-3.

Ca­pado­cia, who was also backed by Dun­lop and coach by her far­ther Joe, suc­cumbed to Mer­itx­ell Perera Ros of Spain, 7-5, 6-3, in their Round 3 en­counter.
