UST stakes judo titles

University of Santo Tomas eyes a second straight championsh­ip double as the UAAP judo competitio­ns opens today at the Sports Pavilion inside the De La SalleZobel campus in Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa.

The men’s and women’s division bouts will start at 1:30 p.m.

Last year, the Growling Tigers captured a league-best 12th men’s title with 49 points, while the Tigresses won their third straight women’s championsh­ip – and ninth overall – in runaway fashion by amassing 74 points.

With season MVP Daryl John Mercado leading the way, UST dethroned Ateneo, which settled for second place with 36 points.

The Tigresses reasserted their mastery in the distaff side with whooping 51-point margin over runner-up University of the East behind tournament MVP Sueko Kinjho.

UST is also staking its boys and girls titles in the juniors division, which will open curtains at 9 a.m.
