UC bets shine in Jawad ta­ble ten­nis tour­ney

The Univer­sity of Cebu ta­ble pad­dlers ended half a decade of ti­tle drought in the men’s team event of the 26th Erne Jawad Ta­ble Ten­nis Cup yes­ter­day at the Robin­sons Gal­le­ria.

UC lord it over in the pre­miere class with a 2-0 vic­tory over Bacolod City’s LOPTTA.

The vet­eran Glendo Nayre opened UC’s bid with an 11-8, 10-12, 11-8, 11-8, vic­tory over JP Gu­ba­ton.

In­spired by his first sin­gles vic­tory, Nayre played dou­bles along­side Le­muel Ag­bon. The duo up­ended for­mer Jawad Cup champion Mark Ji­men­rez and J Cas­tro, 11-8, 11-9, 11-7.

The trio of Leah Ag­bon, Kristi­enne Kaye Alicaya and Char­ity Macul also pow­ered UC in the girls 13 class by de­feat­ing RAV, 2-0.

LOPTTA bounced back with adou­ble vic­tory via the boys and girls 18 di­vi­sions. LOPTTA blasted UC, 2-0, in the men boys fi­nals, while its girls squad de­feated Danao City for the gold.

Hua Ching Foun­da­tion of Man­daue, for its part, snared the boys 13 cham­pi­onship.
