Gilbuena reigns supreme in Natl. Duathlon Championship

-

Cebuana Miscelle Gilbuena claimed her first national crown via the 2017 National Duathlon Championship held at the Subic Freeport, yesterday.

The 29-year-old Gilbuena topped the women’s division of the standard distance despite the presence of elite female athletes including defending champion Mirasol Abad.

Gilbuena was the fastest to reach the finish line in two hours, 20 minutes and 15 seconds, while Jermyn Prado was distant second in 2:30:00 as Rowena Valdez wound up third in 2:33:33.

The men’s action saw Jarwin Batanao successfully defending his title with a time of 1:57:42.

In the sprint distance, Talisay City’s Kim Remolino failed to win the title after a comfortable lead gone to waste as technical officials failed to put a turning point marker.

Remolino’s teammate Karen Manayon finished second overall in the female class of the sprint race and first in the YOG category.—
