Davide: No shoot order at CPDRC

- — Le Phyllis F. Antojado

Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III did not like the threat made by the acting jail warden of Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center, Audesti Miguel, to shoot anyone who enters the restricted area inside the facility.

Davide said he was not aware of the policy and vowed to call Miguel’s attention about it.

“I will call Audesti Miguel and urge him to act within the bounds of law but remain strong in their campaign against illegal drugs,” Davide said.

Davide said he believes that the acting warden was just giving a stern warning to jail personnel in CPDRC.

“I figure nga iyang reason para lang gyud to instill discipline sa mga guards diha nga gahi og ulo ba,” Davide said.

Miguel issued a memorandum earlier disallowing jail personnel from entering the “restricted area” at the CPDRC without “security clearance” from his office or else they will be shot if they insist on crossing the area.

“I have direct orders to anybody assigned there to challenge anybody who would go near and would attempt to cross the line and make them aware that we’re gonna shoot them if they do. I assure them that whoever is guarding there, I’ll back you up,” Miguel said.

Miguel was referring to the back door going to CPDRC’s kitchen area, which he believes contrabands were sneaked into. He said the main entrance of the structure is well guarded by the personnel of Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO).

Miguel said the “restricted area” only applies to CPDRC personnel but not to inmates who have errands inside.
