From Trash to Fashion
Green Fashion Revolution:
It was born in 2011 when a group of Aboitiz scholars conceptualized an ecofashion-oriented program during the Aboitiz Scholars’ CSR Summit. The young group did more than come up with a novel program of ecology-sensitive undertakings – they laid down the foundations of a much-anticipated annual inter-collegiate fashion competition.
Dubbed “Green Fashion Revolution,” the competition tests the skills of Cebu’s upcoming fashion designers, beginning in 2012 with Cebu students and then extending to include schools in Metro Manila in 2016.
This year, the Metro Manila competition, held on April 22, had contingents from De La Salle College of Saint Benilde, Asia Pacific College and SoFA Design Institute, which bagged the competition’s grand prize.
For its sixth run in Cebu this year, contingents representing Cebu Institute of Technology-University Argao, Cebu Institute of Technology-University, the Fashion Institute of the Philippines Cebu, the Fashion Institute of Design and Arts Cebu, University of the Philippines-Cebu, University of San JoseRecoletos and St. Theresa’s College Cebu will vie for the grand prize on November 25.
Spearheaded by the Aboitiz Foundation with the invaluable inputs of Cebuano designer Dexter Alazas, this year’s “Green Fashion Revolution” in Cebu has the biggest number of competing schools to date.
More than an intercollegiate competition, “Green Fashion Revolution” has championed the “reduce, reuse and recycle” philosophy by challenging student designers in making =fashion accessories and ensembles.
