The second suspect in the killing of an architecture student died in his detention cell at the Taguig police station on Sunday night.

Reynold Clave, 18, was found dead by detainees at around 10:45 p.m., according to Southern Police District director Senior Superintendent Tomas Apolinario.

Clave was one of the robbers who stabbed dead Nick Russel Oniot in Barangay Central on Oct. 14.

Clave was rushed to the Taguig Pateros Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Police said initial findings attributed the cause of death to “medical complexity.”

Apolinario said Clave might have suffered a heart attack.

“Maybe he suffocated because the jail is overcrowded,” Apolinario told reporters. ccording to Apolinario, Clave was in stable condition when he was taken to the Taguig police station on Oct. 15.

Apolinario said around 200 inmates are serving time at the Taguig police jail, which can accommodate only 50 detainees.

Clave’s cohort, Marvin Bernardo, was earlier killed by police after he allegedly grabbed the firearm of one of his escorts in a police car.

Oniot was on his way home when Clave and Bernardo tried to steal his backpack.

The victim was stabbed 18 times by the suspects when he refused to yield his bag.
