Ateneo turned to Michelle Morente this time to beat Adamson University, 25-19, 25-18, 25-13, and seize solo third place in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament yesterday at the San Juan Arena.

Morente produced 12 points and seven digs as the Lady Eagles chalked up their first winning streak of the season and the third victory overall in four contests, while keeping the Lady Falcons winless.

Earlier, Far Eastern University rebounded from its five-set loss to Ateneo with a 25-18, 25-22, 25-27, 25-11 win over University of the East, to even its record to 2-2.

Handling the Lady Eagles for the second straight game as coach Tai Bundit is still in Bangkok, assistant mentor Sherwin Meneses said he was satisfied with his troops’ performance.

“Kahit wala si coach Tai,

masaya ang training na ginagawa namin,” said Meneses after pulling off a win against his alma mater Adamson U. “Sa Monday, babalik na si coach Tai so makaka-focus na lalo sila. Pukpukan na sa ensayo.”

Ateneo dominated in attacks (36-26), blocks (8-4) and service (7-0), and playmaker Jia Morado tossed in 43 excellent sets in another solid outing.

The Lady Falcons tallied more digs than the Lady Eagles, 32-29, and their floor coverage kept them in the game in the first two sets.

Adamson University, however, simply crumbled in the third frame.

The Lady Warriors were able to stole the third set, but the Lady Tamaraws got their form back in the fourth to prevail in the onehour, 57-minute match.

“Good thing, natututo kami sa mga pagkakamali namin. May chance pa kami na maitama ang mga pagkukulang namin,” said FEU mentor Shaq delos Santos.
