Paolo Pontejos and Tey Teodoro took charge in the last period as Jose Rizal University stunned erstwhile unbeaten Racal with a thrilling 77-75 victory in the upset-marred PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at the JCSGO gym in Cubao yesterday.

Pontejos and Teodoro combined for 17 fourth quarter points as the Heavy Bombers rallied to beat the fancied Tile Masters in a scrambling finish and move to joint fifth with the idle Tanduay Rhum Masters at 3-3.

Racal still had a chance to force overtime or steal the win but Rey Nambatac blew the Tile Masters’ bid with a turnover with 0.4 second left.

“We know how strong Racal is. We kept on pushing, kept on fighting, and I told them to be ready,” said JRU coach Vergel Meneses after his wards snapped their three-game skid.

Teodoro poured in seven of his 20 points in the last 10 minutes of play while Pontejos drilled in 10 of his 16 markers in the same stretch while chipping in six assists and four rebounds.

Earlier, Wangs Basketball hacked out a shock 98-93 victory over AMA Online Education to move to solo eighth at 2-5.

Von Tambeling hit 21 points, including five triples, while Rey Publico fired eight of his 18 markers in the fourth quarter as the Couriers fended off the Titans’ repeated rallies to snapped a five-game slide. Tambeling also grabbed seven rebounds and dished off four assists.
