Woman drug con­vict bolts jail

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A woman serv­ing a sen­tence for il­le­gal drugs es­caped from the Zamboanga del Norte Cor­rec­tional and Re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion Cen­ter in Barangay Don Jose Aguierre, Manukan, Zamboanga del Norte on Fri­day.

The es­cape was dis­cov­ered af­ter prison of­fi­cials con­ducted a head­count at around 3 p.m., Chief In­spec­tor He­len Galvez, Zamboanga penin­sula po­lice spokesper­son, said yes­ter­day.

Galvez said the es­capee could have taken ad­van­tage of a med­i­cal out­reach pro­gram at the jail fa­cil­ity. A por­tion of the barbed wire fence at the back of the fe­male cell build­ing was found de­tached.

The 13-year-old daugh­ter of the es­capee was ar­rested and placed un­der the cus­tody of the De­part­ment of So­cial Wel­fare and De­vel­op­ment for try­ing to sneak a sa­chet of shabu into the prison last Wed­nes­day. The Grade 8 stu­dent re­port­edly hid the il­le­gal drugs in her socks.
