Witness surfaces in bank employee’s rape-slay
The Eastern Police District (EPD) has in its custody a bus driver deemed to be a witness in the case of a bank employee who was found dead, apparently raped, in the garage of a towing firm in Pasig City last Sunday.
Randy Oavenada is “helping us in identifying the suspects in the rape-slay” of Mabel Talaga Cama, 22, EPD director Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula said yesterday.
Cama, an employee of the Malayan Bank in Makati City, was last seen alive by Oavenada in the Mega Bus terminal, formerly an impounding area of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, in Barangay Rosario at around 10 p.m. Saturday.
The witness saw two men behind Cama as she was texting her family to open the passage leading to their house, Chief Inspector Robert Garcia, police investigation chief, said.
“The witness left to eat dinner. When he returned minutes later Cama and the two men were no longer around,” Garcia said in an interview.
He said two teams are scouring the city and other areas to find the two men, whom said are “persons of interest.”
Investigators are also coordinating with the towing firm’s security guard following reports that a woman was heard screaming for help at the time Cama “disappeared.”
Cama’s body was found in the towing firm’s garage. Half her body had been set on fire and she was naked from the waist up. Her underwear was found beside her body while her personal belongings were missing.
Garcia said they are still waiting for the autopsy report to determine the cause of her death and whether she was indeed raped. –
