There’s a major change in the cast of Born Beautiful, a spin-off of Die Beautiful, the box-office hit directed by Jun Robles Lana and that won Best Actor awards for Paolo Ballesteros (including one from the Tokyo International Film Festival) who played the title role. Out of the cast is Christian

Bables (left) who became popular after he won Best Supporting Actor at the 2016 Metro Filmfest for his performance as Barbs, the best friend of Paolo’s character Trisha. Taking his place is

Martin del Rosario (right) who himself has won several awards.

Jun explained that Christian informed him that he was no longer available to do Born Beautiful, “so my creative team and I rethink the character of Barbs and what the character can do.”

Jun thought of Martin with whom he worked as producer of Ang Mananagggal sa Unit 23B, directed by Prime Cruz who belongs to Jun and partner Perci Intalan’s IdeaFirst Company.

After starring in a number of acclaimed independent films — among them Dagitab which won for him an Urian award — Martin will portray the expanded role of Barbs.

“We know that Martin can bring a new dimension to the character now that the entire series revolves around Barbs,” added Jun. Born Beautiful will start shooting any time this month and will be seen on Cignal Entertainment in early 2018.
