MMDA: 100 violations in clearing ops

- – Robertzon Ramirez

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported almost 100 traffic violations during its clearing operations in Manila yesterday.

In a statement, the MMDA said 30 vehicles were illegally towed; 65 motorists were issued citation tickets; 16 were apprehended for illegally parked vehicles; 43 for public utility vehicles; and six for other traffic violations.

MMDA chairman Danny Lim led the clearing operations yesterday in Manila following reports they received through Hotline 888, a citizens’ complaint center.

“We received lots of obstruction complaints in this area about road obstructions and we have to act on it to widen the road and provide pedestrians a safe place to walk,” Lim said.

Shortly after the clearing operations, Lim asked barangay officials to maintain the cleanliness of the area and failure to do so would mean an administrative case.

He said that he will return in a week to check on the places the MMDA cleared during yesterday’s operation.
