Ja­panese shot in Malate

A Ja­panese man who was ac­cused of estafa was shot in front of the Am­bas­sador Ho­tel in Malate, Manila be­fore noon Thurs­day.

Masato Ogushi, 67, had just boarded a pedi­cab in front of the ho­tel, where he was bil­leted, when he was shot in the neck by mo­tor­cy­cle-rid­ing as­sailants along Mabini street at around 11:40 a.m.

The pedi­cab driver took the vic­tim to the Ospi­tal ng Maynila, where he was re­ported to be in crit­i­cal con­di­tion.

Po­lice re­cov­ered a .45 cal­iber bul­let cas­ing at the crime scene.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors are look­ing into the vic­tim’s in­volve­ment in al­leged swin­dling ac­tiv­i­ties as a mo­tive af­ter a cer­tain Tet­suya Naka re­ported to the po­lice that Ogushi owed him ¥2.5 mil­lion or roughly P1.25 mil­lion, ac­cord- ing to Se­nior In­spec­tor Henry Navarro, chief of the Manila Po­lice District’s Gen­eral As­sign­ments and In­ves­ti­ga­tion Sec­tion.
