Town & Country (Philippines) - - OUT & ABOUT -

Now on its 23rd year, Steps’ annual Summer Dance Workshop gets underway this month, offering new electives to complement the standard technical dance classes. Aside from intensive tutorials in classical ballet, modern, jazz, tap, street dance, partnering classes, and pointe work, Steps now offers modules on Stage Makeup, Building a Personal Brand on Social Media, and Dance Résumé 101—all important and relevant tools in a world increasingly dominated by social media. To improve physical fitness, Pilates for Dancers is also available, along with workshops on improvisation, expression, and composition. “We take pride in being a progressive school that is sensitive to the needs of dancers in this generation,” explains managing director Sofia Zobel-Elizalde. “We would like to provide our dancers all the tools they can use to really move ahead in their career. Today, that means not just being able to dance, but being able to market oneself as an artist as well.” Following Steps tradition, students who complete the workshop take part in a dance concert where they can demonstrate their newly acquired or polished skills. Entitled “LIVE… LOVE… DANCE!” the concert will be held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Main Theater on May 28, 2017. The workshop runs from April 1 to May 22; for additional information, contact Steps Operations Manager Angie Cervantes at 621.6186; steps_ph@yahoo.com.
