ALL THE PRETTY THINGS

Town & Country (Philippines) - - OUT & ABOUT -

Celebrating 15 years since self-taught jewelry designer Wynn Wynn Ong first captivated our hearts with her elegant, thoughtfully intricate creations, the Yuchengo Museum presents a special retrospective featuring the fruits of her creative endeavors through the years—from art jewelry to objets d’art to couture.

For the very first time, the museum’s Masters Gallery will showcase the creations of the jeweler and aesthete, spanning her earliest works with wire to her latest collaboration with Jewelmer. Blown-up portraits featuring her muses will also be on display, and highlights of the retrospective include Ong’s couture and jewelry in collaboration with style brands, as well as furniture and lighting pieces customized for clients. As most of the pieces are archival, on loan from clients for the duration of the exhibit, the retrospective provides an extensive and rare opportunity to view these oneof-a-kind pieces from private collections.

Born in Burma and raised in Vienna and Manila to a family of women who collected jewelry, Ong’s continental upbringing and childhood travels around Europe formed her fanciful yet sophisticated sense of aesthetics. Magical memories include ponds sparkling with precious stones in the family compound and thumbing the jeweled buttons on her mother’s traditional Burmese blouses, and so when she couldn’t find any jewelry that measured up to the sublime wonders in her head, she decided to create her own. Without any training or formal background in gemology, Ong began designing jewelry in 2001, and her work— which now includes couture, furniture, and objets d’art designed with a jeweler’s sensibilities—is celebrated for its originality, craftsmanship, and meticulous attention to detail.
