Often called the “Mother of Philippine Modern Art,” Purita Kalaw-Ledesma was a writer and the founder of the Arts Association of the Philippines. The launch of The Life and Times
of Purita Kalaw-Ledesma, a book chronicling her life and work, was accompanied by an exhibit curated by Ricky Francisco, entitled “Piecing Together: Selections and Stories From the Purita KalawLedesma Collection.” Written by art historian Patrick Flores, National Gallery of Singapore curator Clarissa Chikiamco, and Eileen Legaspi-Ramirez, and edited by Petty Benitez-Johannot, the tome is published by Vibal Foundation with the KalawLedesma Foundation and BDO.
