POP THE TRUNK
For its ninth edition, the MaArte fair finds itself not only in a new venue but with a new format. Now held at The Gallery of the Peninsula Manila, this year’s MaArte fair will feel more intimate, with only 32 merchants displaying their products in a trunk show setting. Organized by the Museum Foundation of the Philippines as a fund-raising venture benefitting the National Museum, MaArte has expanded its role as a stage where micro-entrepreneurs can showcase world-class products derived from local materials, crafted by talented artisans, and produced in an environment-friendly, sustainable, and socially responsible manner. This year’s partners were vetted by event consultants Vicky Jalandoni and Katrina Gonzalez, who also took charge of creating the cozy setting of the selling floor. Partitioned into several intimate nooks, the areas have the feel of tropical living rooms. “We have had to meticulously select a good mix of exhibitors, both old and new,” explained Jalandoni. “We will have 32 exhibitors this year and we are elated that we have new merchants on board such as Mich Araullo, Tweetie de Leon Gonzalez for TDLG, Aranaz, Two Chic by TC Alvarez, Cabaña Workshop, Stockton Row, Nicole Whisenhunt, Haute Home, Violetvine by Amarie, and Filip+Inna.” Gonzalez adds, “Think of it as if you are being welcomed into the home of 32 highly celebrated Filipino craftsmen.” A side event of the fair is MaArTEA, where business owners provide insights and advice to budding entrepreneurs, at The Lobby. Throughout the month of August, specialty teas will also be offered as part of the Afternoon Tea service, with a portion of the proceeds going to MFPI’s fundraising efforts. Already, Albert Avellana, the organization’s president is looking forward to the next one. “We are relentless in our pursuit for new and exciting ways to generate resources for the foundation. Any learning we will get from MaArte at The Pen, we will put to good use for an even better fair next year.” August 11 to 13, The Gallery, Peninsula Manila; for more information contact the Museum Foundation of the Philippines at 697.9509 or 404.2685; email@example.com; museumfoundationph.org; @maartefair on Facebook.
