BCPO-SWAT team members under restriction amid shootout investigation
National Police Commission-Region VI (Napolcom-6) director, Atty. Joseph Celis, in a letter to Task Force Kasanag (TFK) national commander John Chiong, revealed seven members of the Bacolod City Police Office-Special Weapons and Tactics (BCPOSWAT) team were placed under restriction amid an investigation into last August’s shootout in the city’s Barangay Sum-ag.
A copy of the letter was furnished to members of the media yesterday, however, the names of the involved officers were withheld pending the outcome of the probe.
Chiong earlier requested Napolcom to conduct an “independent investigation.”
The incident, which took place in front of Sumag National High School, resulted in the killing of two suspected robbers and a 70-year-old pedicab driver. Three civilians were also wounded, including the daughter of Isabela Mayor Joselito Malabor.
Earlier, witnesses claimed police officers
fired M16 assault rifles on two suspected robbers, who were armed with .38-caliber revolvers. Police later identified the fatalities as Murcia residents 24-year-old Ryan Alib and 30-year- old Armel Espadon.
The two were identified as Agustin Criminal Gang members suspected of burglarizing a panel van in Barangay Taloc, Bago City.
