BCPO-SWAT team mem­bers un­der re­stric­tion amid shootout in­ves­ti­ga­tion

Na­tional Po­lice Com­mis­sion-Re­gion VI (Napol­com-6) di­rec­tor, Atty. Joseph Celis, in a let­ter to Task Force Kasanag (TFK) na­tional com­man­der John Chiong, re­vealed seven mem­bers of the Ba­colod City Po­lice Of­fice-Spe­cial Weapons and Tac­tics (BCPOSWAT) team were placed un­der re­stric­tion amid an in­ves­ti­ga­tion into last Au­gust’s shootout in the city’s Barangay Sum-ag.

A copy of the let­ter was fur­nished to mem­bers of the me­dia yes­ter­day, how­ever, the names of the in­volved of­fi­cers were with­held pend­ing the out­come of the probe.

Chiong ear­lier re­quested Napol­com to con­duct an “in­de­pen­dent in­ves­ti­ga­tion.”

The in­ci­dent, which took place in front of Su­mag Na­tional High School, re­sulted in the killing of two sus­pected rob­bers and a 70-year-old pedi­cab driver. Three civil­ians were also wounded, in­clud­ing the daugh­ter of Is­abela Mayor Joselito Mal­a­bor.

Ear­lier, wit­nesses claimed po­lice of­fi­cers

fired M16 as­sault ri­fles on two sus­pected rob­bers, who were armed with .38-cal­iber re­volvers. Po­lice later iden­ti­fied the fa­tal­i­ties as Mur­cia res­i­dents 24-year-old Ryan Alib and 30-year- old Armel Es­padon.

The two were iden­ti­fied as Agustin Crim­i­nal Gang mem­bers sus­pected of bur­glar­iz­ing a panel van in Barangay Taloc, Bago City.
