Sec­ond earth­quake recorded in An­tique this week

After a 2.8-mag­ni­tude earth­quake was recorded just west of Bu­ga­song, An­tique last Mon­day, seis­mic ac­tiv­ity mea­sur­ing 2.2 in mag­ni­tude was recorded yes­ter­day af­ter­noon in Anini-y, lo­cated just over 100 kilome­ters south of the ini­tial epi­cen­ter.

Ac­cord­ing to a Philip­pine In­sti­tute of Vol­canol­ogy and Seis­mol­ogy bul­letin, no dam­age was recorded as a re­sult of the in­ci­dent nor were there any an­tic­i­pated af­ter­shocks.

Earth­quakes rang­ing be­tween 1.0 and 3.0 in mag­ni­tude are of­ten clas­si­fied as a Level 1 on the Mer­calli in­ten­sity scale, where very few even feel the tremor.

Last month, a 4.0-mag­ni­tude earth­quake struck east of Valder­rama, An­tique.

Next month, An­tique will be host­ing the fourth quar­ter Na­tional Si­mul­ta­ne­ous Earth­quake Drill.

Ac­cord­ing to An­tique Pro­vin­cial Dis­as­ter Risk Re­duc­tion and Man­age­ment Of­fi­cer Brod­er­ick Train, the drill will be held in San Jose de Bue­nav­ista, the prov­ince's cap­i­tal, with an es­ti­mated 3,000 ex­pected to par­tic­i­pate./WDJ
