Iloilo City back on ‘Su­per Cities’ list

Iloilo City was named among the top 100 “Su­per Cities” on the Tholons Ser­vices Glob­al­iza­tion In­dex 2018, which is pro­duced by Lon­don-based strate­gic ad­vi­sory firm Tholons. The city fell off the list last year but re­turned this year in 92nd place.

“Pre­vi­ously, the only in­di­ca­tor was how tech­nol­ogy is used for gov­ern­ment ser­vices,” ex­plained Lo­cal Eco­nomic and In­vest­ment Pro­mo­tions Of­fice head Ritchel Ga­van. “This year, it in­cluded the sup­port to lo­cal start-up com­mu­nity.”

“The city gov­ern­ment is in the ini­tial stage of com­ing up with au­to­mated is­suance of busi­ness, oc­cu­pancy, and build­ing per­mits,” she added.

Ac­cord­ing to the re­port, “The in­dex eval­u­ates ranks and pro­vides lo­ca­tion strate­gies to multi­na­tional cor­po­ra­tions, coun­tries, gov­ern­ments, mul­ti­lat­eral agen­cies, an­a­lysts and in­vestors.”

Data from the in­dex is of­ten uti­lized by multi­na­tional cor­po­ra­tions op­er­at­ing in the busi­ness process out­sourc­ing in­dus­try.

Mean­while, Ba­colod City ranked 89th.

In ad­di­tion, among the top 50 “Dig­i­tal Na­tions,” the Philip­pine ranked sec­ond be­hind In­dia./
