Labor group calls wage hikes ‘urgent’
Local labor group, the General Alliance of Workers Association (GAWA), yesterday called wage hikes “urgent.”
GAWA Secretary-General Wennie Sancho cited the 6.7 percent inflation rate, which he described as “causing erosion on the purchasing power of the workers,” as a factor in the necessity for wage hikes.
The labor official also said rising fuel prices are also a component.
He noted, Wage
Order No. 24, which was implemented last July, needed to be reviewed in order for a new wage order to be issued.
Sancho said the matter will be discussed at the next Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-6 meeting, which is scheduled for October 25./
