Two killed af­ter van slams into parked truck in Bago City

At least two peo­ple were killed, while 10 oth­ers were in­jured, af­ter a van slammed into a parked truck yes­ter­day morn­ing along the na­tional high­way at Purok Pa­paya in Barangay Calumang­gan, Bago

City.

Po­lice iden­ti­fied the fa­tal­i­ties as 22-yearold Jake Cabar­les and 50-year-old Rolando Li­maco, a truck helper.

Bago City Po­lice Sta­tion traf­fic in­ves­ti­ga­tor, Se­nior Po­lice Of­fi­cer 4 Wil­son Aguilar, said, based on their in­ves­ti­ga­tion, Li­maco was fix­ing the truck’s tire when a pas­sen­ger van driven by Ben­jie Ga­marza slammed into the rear por­tion of the truck.

The helper was killed on the spot, while Cabar­les was rushed to the Bago City Dis­trict Hos­pi­tal, where he was de­clared dead on ar­rival by hos­pi­tal staff.

The in­jured were also rushed to hospi­tals in Bago City and Ba­colod City.

Po­lice de­ter­mined the van, which orig­i­nated from Si­palay City and was bound for Ba­colod City, is sus­pected to be a col­o­rum ve­hi­cle. The truck’s driver im­me­di­ately fled the area af­ter the in­ci­dent, while Ga­marza was de­tained by po­lice and could face ve­hic­u­lar man­slaugh­ter with mul­ti­ple phys­i­cal in­jury charges.
