PRO-6, NPA de­nounce killing of hu­man rights lawyer

Both the Po­lice Re­gional Of­fice-6 (PRO6) and New Peo­ple’s Army (NPA) Leonardo Panali­gan Com­mand sep­a­rately con­demned the re­cent killing of Atty. Ben­jamin Ramos, Jr., sec­re­tary-gen­eral for hu­man rights group, the Na­tional Union of the Peo­ple’s Lawyers-Ne­gros (NUPL-Ne­gros).

In a state­ment sent yes­ter­day, PRO-6 direc­tor, Po­lice Chief Su­per­in­ten­dent John

Bu­lala­cao, con­demned the in­ci­dent, say­ing, he has since or­dered an in­ves­ti­ga­tion into the in­ci­dent.

He added, ini­tial

in­ves­ti­ga­tions dis­closed the vic­tim was a found­ing NUPL mem­ber and served as a lawyer for sus­pected rebels and drug users.

“We will pro­vide up­date once in­ves­ti­ga­tion has been com­pleted,” he as­sured. Mean­while, NPA Leonardo Panali­gan Com­mand spokesper­son Ka JB Re­gal­ado called Ramos a “known de­fender and hu­man rights ad­vo­cate, a good per­son, and has no en­e­mies.”

He added, they would also con­duct their own in­ves­ti­ga­tion into the killing.
