When Paulina Luz Sotto met Jose Eduardo Diosdado “Jed” Salgado Llanes back in August 2014, she knew that he was the one. The two of them hit it off right away. They both graduated from the Ateneo de Manila University, and they’re both artistic souls who also share a love for golf. Paulina is an artist, an abstract painter who takes after her grandfather, National Artist for Visual Arts Arturo Luz. Jed, though he’s a corporate guy, a Development Studies graduate who is passionate about business and sustainability, is into music: he performed with the Ateneo Blue Symphony Orchestra back in college.

The connection was almost instant. By September of the same year, Paulina and Jed had officially become a couple.

The two dated for a year and a half, supporting each other through promotions, art exhibitions, golf games, and further studies. And on February 25, 2016, about 18 months after they first met, Jed surprised Paulina with a proposal that involved the people who meant to her the most, including her parents, Vic Sotto and Angela Luz.

In an interview with YES! after the proposal, Paulina says that she had always been certain about Jed, even if they had only been together for a year and a half.

“It doesn’t really matter how long you’ve been together, as long as you’re sure about the person. Kasi, as in, every time—like, even before—when I date guys, parang I don’t date for, you know, just for now. Talagang I’m thinking of the future. So that’s why I know when I know myself talaga. And I know when I’m sure. And for the first time, I was sure talaga.”

And even after they just got engaged, Paulina already felt like she was married to Jed. “Parang our relationship, parang married couple na, e,” she admits. “That’s how I feel. As in, we spend a lot of time together. The things we fight about, parang married couple. We feel that we’ve known each other for so, so long. But at the same time, it still hasn’t gotten old. Alam mo ’yong honeymoon stage pa? Parang gano’n pa rin. It’s still there.”

There was no doubt in Paulina’s heart that Jed was the right one for her. And on the first day of the new year, 2017, she proved herself right as she walked down the aisle to marry the man she had always been sure of.

It was the best way to greet the new year, and to mark the beginning of Jed and Paulina’s life together.

After two-and-a-half happy years together, Jed and Paulina finally became Mr. and Mrs. Llanes. Mabuhay ang bagong kasal!

The newlyweds posed for the requisite souvenir shot with their parents—Vic Sotto and Angela Luz, Ria Macapagal Salgado and Jovy Llanes. The magbabalae met each other for the first time back in July 2016, when Jed and Paulina were planning the wedding.
