KS SA US

As early as January this year, news about possible AlDub shows in the United States was already circulating in Filipino-American communities, particularly among Fil-Ams who had gotten hooked on the TV phenomenon of “Kalyeserye,” the Eat Bulaga! segment that featured the accidental love team of Alden Richards and showbiz newcomer Maine Mendoza.

The AlDub fans later learned that a show titled KS sa US— meaning, Kalyeserye in the United States— would be brought to California and New York by April 2017, during the Holy Week season. Finally, it happened. KS sa US was first performed on April 9 at Calfornia’s Pasadena Civic Auditorium, where the photos on this spread were taken. A second performance followed on April 12 at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York.

Happy Box, the U.S. producers of the shows, priced the tickets from $80 to $172. The front-row seats reportedly got sold out first in both performances.

The show’s highlight was Alden’s singing of the unofficial AlDub theme song, “God Gave Me You.” The U.S.-based fans, known in the Philippines as #TeamAbroad, became emotional when they witnessed, right before their eyes, their beloved AlDub reliving a major kilig moment that they had previously seen only on TV.•

This almost-kissing pakilig gesture of Alden and Maine elicited the loudest shrieks among the California fans.

The AlDub tandem—now also known as MaiChard, a uni-name blended from their real names, Maine Mendoza and Richard Reyes Faulkerson Jr.— also rendered several song numbers, including the duet version of “Tadhana,” the theme song of Destined To Be Yours ( DTBY), AlDub’s first-ever teleserye as a love team.

DTBY ended last May 26 after a threemonth run on GMA-7. At press time, Alden and Maine were already gearing up for their third movie, slated for a lateyear release.
